Marja Burchard
Marja (*1985) is a fusion musician (keyboards, vibraphone, percussion, also trombone, other instruments, vocals, composition) who has led the world music band Embryo since 2016. She is the daughter of musician Christian Burchard. In 1996, at the age of eleven, she first played with Embryo, the band he founded. Later, she distinguished herself as a multi-instrumentalist within the band. After her father suffered a stroke, she took over the leadership of Embryo, which she continued to run after his death. With Jakob Thun, Sebastian Wolfgruber, and Maasl Maier, she created a new core of the group, which also performed independently, for example, at the jazz club Unterfahrt in München.
Burchard was also a member of Karl Hector's band The Malcouns, with whom she recorded two albums since 2014. Since 2018, she has also been a member of Karaba, and since 2020, of Jisr. She can also be heard on albums by Rodinia, Radio Citizen, and the Express Brass Band. In 2022, she also improvised in a trio with drummers Simon Popp and Sebastian Wolfgruber. She has composed for her groups, as well as for Pierrick Pédron. In 2023, Burchard was awarded the Advancement Prize for Music by the City of München. In 2024, she received the Special Jury Prize at the Hessian Film Awards for her music for the film Shahid by Narges Kalhor. from Wikipedia |
