Gordon Beck
Gordon (*1936 in London) was a jazz pianst and composer. Gordon initially received classical piano training but then became a technical draftsman. He worked for a year in Canada, where his interest in jazz was awakened. From 1962, he played in Tony Kinsey's band, then for several years in Tubby Hayes' quintet, and also accompanied Annie Ross. Together with Tony Oxley and bassist Jeff Clyne, he formed a trio that recorded several albums and performed live with singer Joy Marshall and John McLaughlin (When Sunny Gets Blue: Spring '68 Sessions). From 1969 to 1972, he played in Phil Woods' European Rhythm Machine, which was very successful at European festivals.

Gordon subsequently founded the group Gyroscope, but also played with Ian Carr's Nucleus and George Gruntz's Piano Conclave. He also worked as a studio musician, including for Chris Hinze and Mel Tormé. He then became a member of Didier Lockwood's group, toured the world with Allan Holdsworth in 1985, and accompanied Helen Merrill. Since the 1990s, electronic music has been his primary focus. Gordon died in 2011.
