Alexander Hawkins
Alexander is a jazz pianist and organist. From the age of seven, Alexander received classical piano lessons, initially from Roger Allen. As a teenager, he switched to playing the organ. He only returned to the piano at the age of 18. He studied law at Cambridge and earned a doctorate in criminology there. He also played several jazz concerts, including with Alex Ward and Steve Waterman. After graduating, he returned to Oxford, where he quickly joined the independent jazz scene.

Alexander is a co-founder of the transatlantic Convergence Quartet, with Dominic Lash, Taylor Ho Bynum, and Harris Eisenstadt; the band undertook two UK tours in 2006 and 2009 and recorded two albums. As a Hammond organist, he has played with Steve Noble and John Edwards since 2009 in the band Decoy. He also leads his own sextet and was part of the collaborative project Barkingside with Alex Ward. He has also worked with Louis Moholo, Mulatu Astatke, Ntshuks Bonga, Lol Coxhill, John Butcher, Steve Williamson, Karl Evangelista, Antony Braxton, and Eddie Prévost, among others. He has also performed with the London Improvisers Orchestra, the Oxford Improvisers Orchestra, and the Pendulum Big Band, as well as an organist in the funk band Big Train's Haymaker.
