John Wolf Brennan
John (* 1954 in Dublin/Ireland) descend from a musical family. At age 7, his family moved from Ireland to Switzerland.
He started piano lessons at age 10. Musicians such as the Beatles, Cream, Miles Davis, Pink Floyd and Jimi Hendrix
attracted his interest, and consequently, he began playing the bass guitar in rock groups. From 1975 till 1979, John
studied various subjects, among those musicology. He continued studying piano. Improvisation and jazz workshops were of
great interest to John. He visited also composition workshops held by Ennio Morricone and Edison Denissow.
In the 1970's, John discovered his interest for jazz. In 1977, he founded together with Peter Schärli the free-jazz group Freemprovisations. International attention aroused in the 1990's when he played together with Urs Leimgruber. Later, Norma Winstone joined the duo. Besides his working as a jazz pianist and organist, John composes and teaches. |
