Lucas Brown
Lucas Brown is a graduate of Temple University where he studied Jazz Performance at the
Esther Boyer College of Music. He studied there with Terrel Stafford, Bruce Barth, Ed Flanagan,
Tom Lawton, Ben Schacter and others. His formal musical training began at age 5, studying classical
piano. In junior high school he began to study jazz guitar and subsequently began to teach himself
organ as well. Lucas also has studied classical composition with Robert Convery and Mark Rimple.
Lucas plays with many different groups in the Philadelphia area and currently holds down the organ chair with Philly saxophone legend, Bootsie Barnes. Among other projects, he performs his original compositions with his trio that includes saxophonist Victor North and drummer Wayne Smith Jr. He also has an original organ duo with Byron Landham. Lucas has also performed with many noted musicians. The list includes Eric Alexander, Peter Bernstein, John Swana, Larry McKenna, Gerald Veasley, Tim Armacost, Conrad Herwig, Joe Magnarelli, Steve Turre, Ralph Bowen, Randy Johnston, Billy James, Grant Stewart, Duane Eubanks, Jon Gordon, and Sean Jones. He has performed in master classes with Jimmy Heath, Joe Lovano, Christian McBride, Seamus Blake, Barry Harris, Tim Hagans, Dick Oattes, and Oscar Brown Jr. Lucas has also appeared at festivals in Nashville, Omaha, Philadelphia, Washington DC and Somers Point as well as notable clubs including the Blue Note in Manhattan, Smoke, and Blues Alley in Washington DC. |
