Marc Cary
Marc (*1967 in New York City) is jazz pianist and arranger. Marc grew up in Washington, D.C., and began his career in the city's go-go scene. He then worked in New York City with the support of Mickey Bass and Beaver Harris. From the early 1990s, he performed with Art Taylor, Betty Carter, and Roy Hargrove (The Vibe, 1992). In 1994, he became Abbey Lincoln's backing musician and arranger. That same year, his debut album, Cary On, was released, featuring collaborations with Roy Hargrove, Ron Blake, and Dwayne Burno, among others. Two albums followed in the late 1990s for the Arabesque label: Listen (with Terrell Stafford) and The Antidote. After an electronica project (Rhodes Ahead), he began working with an acoustic piano trio in 2000.

In 2012, Marc led the Focus Trio with drummer Duane King and bassist Tarus Mateen. In his music, influenced by Randy Weston and McCoy Tyner, he blends post-bop with Afro-Cuban rhythms and electronic grooves. In 2021, he released the critically acclaimed album Life Lessons.
