Barry Seelen
Barry's parents were dance instructors and often performed on cruise ships
and the resorts of the Catskill Mountains of New York where Barry was
influenced by many great entertainers. When the family moved to Connecticut,
Barry started piano lessons. Upon graduation of High School, he entered the Jazz
Studies Program at the University of Bridgeport where he studied for two years
with Noreen Grey and Bill Finnegan. He then transferred to the Hartt School
where he earned his Bachelor of Music Degree. At Hartt he studied with Hotep
Galetta, Mark Templeton and Jackie McLean.
Barry joined the band The Midnight Sun in 1987, which performed a wide variety
of styles including jazz, rock and blues. In 1990, he started to play with Chris
Tofield and the Blues Benders. In 1995 he felt the road calling. During that
year, he toured with Matt "Guitar" Murphy. Later that year, Barry joined
Greg Piccolo and Heavy Juice, and toured with them for 4 years in the US and
Canada.
