Chick Corea
Chick (*1941) very early discovered the piano as his favorite instrument. Taught
by his father, he very soon developped a great love to this instrument as well as
for the jazz. He listened to Horace Silver and was influenced by Bud Powell.
In 1962, Chick has his first professional engagements with Mongo Santamaria and Willie Bobo. Later, he also worked with Blue Mitchell. McCoy Tyner, Bill Evans and Herbie Hancock gave him impulses for developping his own style. In 1968, Chick joined the Miles Davis group, but left it in 1970 already for founding his own band "Circle". Chick got a wider reputation with his band Return To Forever, which he established 1972. It was in this period that Chick experimented with all kinds of keyboard instruments, among others with a Yamaha organ. After some changes of this group, he formed, in 1985, the group the Elektric Band with John Patitucci and Dave Weckl. |
