James Dickenson: Jazz From The Gallery

cover picture Bergen Digital Studio BD 7030

James Dickenson, church organ, piano
Peter Glennon, electric bass
Dave Hassell, drums

A cute pearl amongst all the jazz albums of the world is this album of the Englishman James Dickensen, who lives now in Norway. James presents himself as piano and organ player, thus the CD contains three different combinations: church organ solo, piano solo and trio with piano, bass and drums.
Of greatest interest for us are the first five tracks, those with church organ solo. These are beautiful ones, tender registrations with a great feeling of whom it is dedicated to: Duke Ellington, whose melodies are interpreted on an unusual instrument regarding Duke's music. It is a pity there are five tracks of it only.

A wonderful interpretation of Duke's melodies!
