Matthias Ernst
Matthias (* 1960) had a classical musical education, starting in 1970 with the piano and continuing with a study at the Musikhochschule Saarland/Germany. Since 1989, he works as a teacher for music.

He stepped into the jazz scene in 1979, when he had first experiences with Bongo's Big Band. Later, Matthias founded the Jazztett, which won, in 1987, a jazz prize. He also worked together with the Landes-Jugend-Jazzorchester des Saarlandes, the Trio Serieux, the Bill Marsh Quartett, and the group Jazzattack. When, in 1995, he got contacts to the New Orleans jazz scene, workshops with artists from the New Orleans University have been held since then. In 1997, Matthias played at the Jazz and Heritage Festival in New Orleans. A year later, he was engaged as a lecturer together with the New Orleans Young Lions at the Jazz Festival in Pescara/Italy. Between 1997 and 1999, he also was lecturer for Big Band at the Universität des Saarlandes.

In 2000, Matthias' interest in the Hammond organ arose. He founded a trio called HammondEx together with guitarist Ivo Müller and drummer Hendrik Schneider.
