Dieter Reith
Dieter (*1938) proved his musical talent at the early age of 7 when he began to learn the classical piano.
Later, he started his studies of Musical Sciences. When in 1961 the German Süd-West-Funk (SWF) looked
for a pianist for its Big Band, Dieter won against 19 other candidates - and this changed his further career
totally. From 1966, he played the organ in Herbolzheimer's Rhythm Combination & Brass. In 1971, Dieter
followed the invitation of Kurt Edelhagen to join the WDR Big Band Cologne (Köln). He got the chance
to cooperate with jazz giants like Stan Getz, Jean Luc Ponty, Art Farmer, Kenny Claire, Slide Hampton,
Maynard Furguson, Toots Tielemans, to mentioned the most important only. During this period a lot of
recordings were made in which Dieter plays the Hammond. But also albums of his own show him at the B3.
Dieter is also well known as an excellent composer and arranger. He worked for Lalo Schifrin, and composed, together with Herbolzheimer and van Rooyen, the music for the Olympic Games 1972 which took place in München. His activities result also in a variety of compositions for German TV thrillers like "Tatort" and "Ein Fall für Zwei". For shows like "Musik ist Trumph" or "Verstehen Sie Spaß", Dieter worked as musical conductor. |
