Dave "Baby" Cortez
Dave "Baby" Cortez alias Dave Cortez Clowney was born 1938 in Chicago. Very early, he learnt
to play the piano from his father, a pianist. Later, however, he switched to the organ. Mid of
the 50's, Dave started to play with bands, such as The Pearls and The Jesters. He also was
asked as a studio musician and recorded among others with Gladys Knight & The Pips.
In 1958, Dave released the first single under his name, "The Happy Organ". This song reached number one of the US Billboard Charts. During the next nearly 20 years, Dave recorded many songs, but did not reach the top of the charts again. End of the 70's, he withdraw from the music scene. |
