Herbert Noord
Herbert, born 1943 in Holland, made his first steps in the Dutch jazz scene with the Bohemia
Quintet. At the age of 24, the "Baron of the B3", as he is called nowadays, formed his first
own group, two years later an initial recording was made at the Bohemia Jazz Club. Many others
followed, some of them highly decorated by Dutch and American jazz magazines. 1979, a first
tour led Herbert to the USA, 1983 followed a second one.
An important improvement of Herbert's career was the cooperation with the Dutch tenorist Rinus Groeneveld and drummer Pierre van der Linden, formerly members of the group Focus, as well as John C. Marshall, an English guitar player living in Germany. It was the beginning of the group Advanced Warning which was presented on tours through Germany in 1990 and on the North Sea Jazz Festival in 1991. In the years to follow Advanced Warning took part in many important jazz festivals, as the Jazz Mecca Festival, the Amsterdam Jazz and Blues Festival, again the North Sea Jazz Festival, and the Heineken Jazz & Blues Festival. Meanwhile, Herbert is involved also in composing, which had led to an own songbook "Nothing to be afraid of". |
