Reuben Wilson
Reuben's (* 1935) roots lie in Oklahoma, he went to school in Pasadena. There he met Bobby Hutcherson. He learnt the piano self-taught. At age 17, he moved to Los Angeles, here he came into contact with the local music scene. This was the time when he changed to the organ. One day he met Richard 'Groove' Holmes, who very much influenced Reuben's style.

In December 1966, Reuben moved to New York City. He founded a trio, but it existed a half year only. He then worked together with Grant Green, Roy Haynes, and Sam Rivers. Between 1968 and 1971 Reuben recorded some albums for the Blue Note label.

After that Reuben fell into oblivion. He worked as session musician for jazz, funk, and rock artists. But at the end of 1980's, Reuben underwent a revival, when he played Acid Jazz, his music was resampled. In 1996, he recorded two albums, 2004 another one with Melvin Sparks.

Reuben passed away in May 2023.
